Metalhead in the Studio!

That’s right we are heading for the studio today to record a few samples of our favourite songs. We’ll update you soon on which songs we picked and where you can hear them!

Metalhead Reviewed by Oliver Hynes, Metalunderground.com

After catching a gig Oliver Hynes, of Metalunderground.com, was kind enough to give us the following review:

To most people, cover bands are the most boring thing to happen to music since minimalism, or at least Leonard Cohen, but the refreshing thing about Metalhead is, had the crowd not know their setlist, it would be impossible to know they were a covers band. Such a statement may seem strange when referring to a band that specialises in covers of such classic heavy metal bands like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Twisted Sister, but Metalhead approaches each and every song as if it were their own, which is why they are unquestionably one of the greatest cover bands that one will have the pleasure to experience. Frontman Chris Hawkins brings an energy to the band equivilant to the great singers of hard rock. David Lee Roth, Rob Halford, Ronnie James Dio, there’s a little bit of all of them mixed within. His approach to stage presence is undoubtedly more in line with the iconic American singers than those of his native Britain, but unlike his American counterparts, Hawkins doesn’t overdo it, bringing a sense of modesty and realism to the party hard stylings of Jon Bon Jovi and the like.

Hawkins isn’t the only member of the band worth mentioning however, bass player Rebecca Baldwin brings with her the hard rocking stage presence of Doro Pesch with the technical skill of Cliff Burton or Steve DiGorgio. While that may sound like a cliché, there are few, if any, bassists I have been privileged to witness first hand that are able to match phenomenal skill with Hendrix-esque stage presence and it’s a true joy to watch her fingers command the strings with such discipline, that even Vladimir Putin would be proud of such organisation. Combine these skills with the excellent time keeping of drummer Arron Bennett and the interesting guitar skills of Paul and Patch and what you have is a covers band that is more original in it’s approach than most local bands you will be able to see in a live environment.

Truly, Metalhead is a joy to watch. From a personal point of view, I would much prefer to witness them again and again and again over the omega wave of metalcore clones that exist in today’s metal scene.
